2013 Nursing Scholarships. What better way to help pay for your school expenses
than to get a Nursing School scholarship award for the 2013 school year.
Nursing Scholarships
Nursing as a profession is one of the most demanding to be found today.
Having to deal with many sick people each and every day is not an easy task. The
hardships of nursing, however, don't just start at the workplace. Even at
school, the nursing coursework just like that of other medical courses is quite
heavy; this means that a nursing student is likely to be buried in books for
most of their time in school. For this reason, a nursing student will need all
the peace of mind that she can get, and this peace of mind can only come from
knowing that all their financial needs, be it tuition, book fees or living
expenses, are taken care of. Nothing does this better than Nursing scholarships.
There are quite a few types of nursing scholarships that one can exploit at any
one given time. The most common are of course the college based scholarships.
These are usually awarded by the individual college where the nurse might be
studying. The criteria for awarding these scholarships are dependent on two
things – need and merit. This means that you must show you are unable to cover
the costs of studying all by yourself and you must also be a high achieving
student to receive such an opportunity.
The truth, however, is that not everybody goes to colleges with grades that are
outstanding and thus, they are likely to miss out on the college based nursing
scholarships; however, there are still other avenues that one might explore. The
first of these are the essay scholarships. There are quite a few of these that
are available for nursing and you don’t have to be an outstanding student with a
great GPA so as to get these. And even if you do get the college based
scholarships, the essay scholarships are an excellent means of supplementing the
sometimes limited funds that are provided by the other scholarships.
There are also quite a few private nursing scholarships that are being offered
by many organizations. Some of these bodies are those that work directly in the
health care profession, while others are bodies that have been set up by
philanthropists. In this case, you could either choose for those that work
specifically with nurses, or you could also try the general scholarships that
are awarded to people in various programs. A good idea is to apply for more than
just one scholarship because your advantage by the laws of probability will
increase the more times you apply.
There are also some nursing scholarships that are offered specifically for those
in distant learning. You may want to pursue this option if you would like to get
a degree from a highly accredited university abroad. This will help to cut down
on your expenses since you may not have to bother with air travel, living
expenses and the likes. The degrees from distant learning are just as authentic
as those awarded for being in the same class with the teacher. The best way to
get a scholarship is to not limit your choices.
