2013 Graduate Scholarships. What better way to help pay for your school expenses
than to get a Graduate scholarship award for the 2013 school year.
Where to get Graduate Scholarships
The means of paying for college education doesn’t get any easier if you are
planning to go any higher than the undergraduate level. Graduate students will
find the college tuition fees and living expenses just as high as at the
undergraduate level if not higher. A common method that graduate students use is
to take some time off before going back to college during which they earn some
money to enable them to pay for their graduate studies. Some students however
prefer to continue with their graduate studies immediately after they are done
with their undergraduate studies. This is a daunting task because such students
are in no better position of paying their fees any more than they were at the
undergraduate level. Graduate scholarships give such students a unique
opportunity to not have to worry about this.
There are many graduate scholarships available out there and a common complaint
is that many such scholarships go unused. On the other hand there are many
graduate students who would die to know about such scholarships. The problem
with these scholarships is that they don't necessarily have the same level of
fame as the scholarships for undergraduate studies thus most people rarely apply
because they just don't know that there are scholarships that they could apply
for. Most of the types of scholarships that are available for undergraduates are
also available for the graduate students.
For starters, there are quite a number of institutions of higher learning that
offer graduate scholarships to graduates willing to pursue their studies in
those institutions. However these scholarships come with a few conditions that
might be problematic. For starters, some institutions insist that the graduate
student seeking the scholarship must have also been an undergraduate in the same
institution. Another condition commonly attached to the first one is that the
student must have performed above a certain grade or achieved a certain
distinction as an undergraduate in that institution.
Other graduate scholarships include merit-based awards, essay scholarships and
career-specific scholarships. Merit-based scholarships will be given to almost
any graduate student who has been identified as having achieved a high
distinction as an undergraduate. Should you wish to opt for this kind of
scholarship, then you would have to start working really hard as an
undergraduate. Essay scholarships simply require that you write an essay on a
particular topic. This is quite similar to the essay scholarships for the
undergraduates. At times, both the graduate and undergraduates may compete for
the same essay scholarship.
Career-specific scholarships are some of the best graduate scholarships to be
exploited. Many organizations offer scholarships to students who are working on
their undergraduate studies in fields related to the goals of the organization.
Organizations that deal with health care are likely to offer these scholarships
in the fields of nursing, medicine and surgery while others offer such
scholarships to those in the teaching profession. At times, a graduate student
may have to look for scholarships from more than one source. Even the
college-based scholarships may not cover all the students’ need in terms of
tuition, living expenses and research. This means that it would be wise if a
student tries to exploit more than just one of these sources.
